Cadet Teaching- Level II
One Semester, Grade 12
Prerequisites: Overall GPA of 4.0 or above

Cadet teaching is open to seniors who have a serious interest in becoming elementary teachers.  The cadet works one block every other day under the supervision of an elementary teacher, observes classes at grade levels K-6, and completes projects approved by the supervising elementary teacher and the high school supervisor.  Due to limited space, students will need to show their interest in teaching as a career.  Before registering for this class, a letter of application must be submitted to the high school supervisor.


Newspaper- Level II
Two Semesters, Grade 11-12
Prerequisites: Approval of the newspaper advisor

The primary objective of this course is to produce the school newspaper, The Memorial View.  Class time is spent planning, writing, and designing the school newspaper.  All students who take this course assume major responsibility in all facets of newspaper production.  Students will be expected to devote time after school to work on the newspaper, especially during deadline days.  This course does not meet English credit requirements.  The course carries ½ credit per semester and does not have any effect on GPA.


Yearbook- Level II
Two Semesters, Grades 11-12
Prerequisites: Approval of the yearbook advisor

This course consists of planning, photographing, selling advertising, laying out pages, writing copy, and editing the Memorial Review.  All students will study the methods of yearbook production so that they can perform any of the various assignments necessary to complete the book.  At the same time, students will concentrate in a single area of their choice and assume the responsibility for this phase of the book.  The student who opts for yearbook should expect to devote time outside of class to completing assignments.  This course does not meet English credit requirements.  The course carries ½ credit per semester and does not have any effect on GPA.


Student Assistant
One Semester, Grades 11-12
Prerequisites: Overall GPA of 3.0 or above; Application Required

There will be a very limited number of positions available to students who are interested in serving as an aide in the office complex.  Students will be permitted to request this option in place of taking a seventh class.  Any junior or senior interested in such a position must submit an application and have it approved prior to the spring registration dates.  Applications may be picked up from the Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction.  PLEASE NOTE:  This program carries no credit toward graduation nor does it have any effect on GPA.  Students making this selection must realize it is a commitment for the entire semester.


Media Center Assistant
One Semester, Grades 11-12
Prerequisites: Overall GPA of 3.0 or above; Application Required

The Media Center Assistant position will be limited to students interested in serving in the Media Center .  The main function will be to help maintain the Media Center in efficient work order.  Students will learn specialized skills and knowledge relating to various Media Center and computer procedures.  Duties include: working at the circulation desk, checking out materials with Media Center ’s automation system, shelving books, creating displays, updating and filing magazines, preparing bibliographies for teachers, performing basic Internet searches, and helping students in the use of the Internet, electronic card catalog, copy machine, printers and scanners.  Before registering for this class, application must be made to the media specialist.  The course carries ½ credit per semester and does count toward GPA.

One Semester, Grades 11-12
Application Required

The purpose of this course is to create, update, and maintain the school website.  Students should have good keyboarding skills, experience in creating web pages, and a good command of the English language.  Students should be prepared to spend some time outside of class to work on the school website.  A limited number of students will be chosen for this course; therefore, students must submit an application to the website supervisor for approval prior to registration.  This course carries 1 credit per semester and does count toward GPA.
