Teachers Research Paper Other

English 9

Mrs. Strodel

Classroom Guidelines

1. Students will be in their assigned seats with all necessary materials (homework, English books, binder, student agenda, and pens/pencils) when the tardy bell rings.
Students must bring and use the MHS agenda.

2. Students will respect one another, the teacher, any substitute or visitor, and the classroom. (This means don't bother anything that does not belong to you - i.e. windows, blinds, fans, stereo, books, book bags, etc. without permission)

3. If I must leave the room, all students are expected to stay seated and to continue working quietly.

Consequences

1. If a student chooses not to do an assignment, he/she will write his/her name, the date, the assignment, and answer the following: "I chose not to do my homework because..." This paper will be kept on file. I do not accept late homework. Homework is late if it is not complete when class beings.

2. Three tardies will be excused per quarter; each consecutive tardy will result in a detention. Tardies are defined as being late to class, not having materials out and ready, or choosing to go to the restroom, to the drinking fountain, or to the phone. Students will be able to go to a locker for important forgotten items but will have to repay the favor by sweeping the floor, cleaning the board, stapling papers, etc. (Please remember that in order to leave the room, you must have your agenda with you.)

3. Any malicious conduct or destruction of property will result in a detention. I am not your maid, nor am I your mother. You are to keep your desk and floor area clean.

Grading Procedures

1. Each quarter your grade will be based upon the following:

Test scores - 30%

Writing scores - 30%

Homework and in-class assignments - 20%

Quiz scores - 20%

Class participation (this will be used to help me determine your grade if you are on the "border-line".

Binder is to be kept up to date at all times. You are required to take notes and to keep all returned materials. I will give no advanced notice as to when I will grade it.

2. Each quarter is weighted 45% and the semester final exam is weighted 10% in order to determine the semester grade.

Two detentions and two demerits.

Missed exams/quizzes and make-up work

If you are absent and miss an assignment, quiz, or test, it is due THE FIRST DAY YOU ARE AT SCHOOL (even if you don't have English class that day). If you come to school after our class, your work is still due that day.  Come and see me before school starts, not right before class, in order to turn in work and set up quiz/test time (during SRB or after school in Detention Hall). If you miss more than one day of class, arrangements will be made for a make-up quiz/test. Make-up exams will be essay exams.

It is your responsibility to come to me to turn in work and pick up make-up work; I will not chase you down. (Remember, no late work is accepted.)

Please call me at home (before 8:00 p.m.) if you don't understand what to do for an assignment. You can also stop by the room to ask or to check the board. Make use of SRB to come get help.
