When applying to a school, check their website. Some schools like DePauw University (Greencastle), Xavier (Cincinnati), St. Louis University and Rose Hulman (Terre Haute) waive the application fee if you apply on line. Many schools encourage applying on line to speed up the processing of your application since they must enter a written application into the computer, before a decision is made. A lot of schools have “open houses” to allow them to accommodate groups who wish to learn about the school and take tours – in other words, whole groups can have concerns and questions answered. Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to “shop” around. Students can check a school’s website to get dates of open houses this fall or call about two weeks in advance to schedule an individual tour and meeting with admissions. The dilemma is that they now have many more qualified applicants than space – not just dorm space, but classroom space. IU Admissions will be implementing a “wait list” for the fall of 2008. Students will be notified via letter regarding the wait-list opportunity. Students will need to respond as soon as possible, but definitely by May 1.
