School
Memorial is a comprehensive school including grades 9 through 12.  It is an inter-parochial Catholic High School operating under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Evansville.  The enrollment of 818 for 2007-2008 is predominately Catholic with approximately 9% non-Catholic.  The 2007 graduating class had 216 students. There are 61 faculty members, 60% of whom hold a Master’s degree.  The student-teacher ratio is approximately 13 to 1.  The school is accredited by the Indiana Department of Education and by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement.
Community
Evansville, a city of about 130,000, is located on the Ohio River in the southwestern corner of the state.  It is at the center of a tri-state area of Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois.  One private, two inter-parochial, and five public schools provide an education for secondary students in the community.  Two universities, one private and one state, and one community college are also located in the community.  The local area is served by industry and agriculture.
Schedule
The school calendar is divided into two semesters each eighteen (18) weeks in length. 
Grade reports are provided every nine (9) weeks. 
The school day consists of four (4) 90-minute periods and a lunch period. 
All students must carry a minimum of seven (7) classes each semester.
Grading System
6 = A     95-100% Consistently Superior
5 = B+   90-94% Excellent
4 = B      85-89% Very Good
3 = C+   80-84% Average
2 = C     75-79% Low Average
1 = D     70-74% Lowest Passing Grade
0 = F     00-69% Failure
A number grade followed by the letter A is an audit and carries no credit.
GPA/ Class Rank Computation
A student’s grade point average and rank in class are computed on a six-point scale using semester grades in all classes except Newspaper, Yearbook, and Physical Education.  A class taken as an audit is counted by using the second grade received.  No grades are weighted in computing GPA or rank.

1In CORE 40, mathematics requires that a student complete work through at least Algebra 2 – Level II or Algebra 2 – Level III with a minimum of six (6) credits.

1Science requires six (6) credits that include two (2) credits in Biology, two (2) credits in Chemistry or Integrated Chemistry/Physics, and another two (2) credits from any other Science class.

1Social Studies requires two (2) credits in U.S. History, one (1) credit in American Government, one (1) credit in Economics, and two (2) credits of World History/Civilization.

1All students are required to take a math or physics course during their junior or senior year.

1Directed electives must include courses from the following areas: World Languages, Fine Arts or Career/Technical.

1Students are strongly encouraged to select electives in a deliberate manner to take full advantage of career exploration and preparation opportunities.

2The Technical Honors Diploma requires the student to follow the CORE 40 program.  It also requires that no grade lower than a C (2.0) be earned in a course, and that the overall grade point average is no lower than a B (4.0).

2 The student must also complete a career-technical program resulting in 8-10 credits and must earn a state-recognized certification or certificate of technical achievement in the career-technical program.

3The CORE 40 with Academic Honors Diploma requires that students take courses that are Level II or above.  A student pursuing the AHD is required to take at least four (4) Level III or Level IV courses during their high school years.  These courses may be in any subject area as long as they meet the requirements for the AHD.  It also requires that no grade lower than a C (2.0) be earned in a course, and that the overall grade point average is no lower than a B (4.0).

3Students must earn eight (8) credits in mathematics during high school years unless Algebra 1 was taken in grade eight.  Those students will be required to complete only six (6) additional credits.  Mathematics credits must include two (2) credits beyond Algebra 2.

3Science requires two (2) credits in Biology, two (2) credits in Chemistry or Integrated Chemistry/Physics and two (2) additional credits from any other Science class.

3Social Studies requires two (2) credits in U.S. History, one (1) credit in American Government, one (1) credit in Economics, and two credits in World History/Civilization.

3Foreign Language requires six (6) credits in one language or eight (8) credits with four (4) credits each in two languages. 

Those students qualifying for the second level of a foreign language as a ninth grader need only four (4) additional credits in that same language, or two (2) in that same language and four (4) in another.

3Students must complete one (1) of the following: two (2) AP courses and exams, dual high school/college course(s) for six (6) college credits, one (1) AP course and exam and  dual high school/college course(s) for three (3) college credits, score 1200+ combined SAT math and verbal, or score a 26 composite ACT.
