Algebra 2 L2
Mr. Hughes
Organization: It is extremely important to be and stay organized! You are required to maintain a 2-3 in., 3-ring binder divided into five sections as follows: Notes/Homework, Quizzes, Tests, WebQuest, and Miscellaneous. Use labeled dividers to make these sections. Your binder will be collected periodically and without notice for a grade based on organization. You should keep everything in your binder for the entire semester.
Homework: Notes & Homework will be assigned and collected daily. It will be graded based on the number of problems completed according to the instructions. Most homework and notes will be worth 6 points (2-notes, 4-homework). The notes and homework should be kept in the Notes/Homework section of your binder in chronological order beginning with the very first item of the semester and ending with the very last item of the semester.
*Late Work – A 25% penalty will be applied to any late work per block it is late. This only applies to unexcused absences as discussed in the Student/Parent Handbook.
*A detention will be issued for every two consecutive 0’s!
Quizzes: Quizzes will be given on a daily bases and be comprehensive of the chapter being covered. If a student is absent then he/she is required to take the quiz that he/she missed. He/she will be exempt from the quiz given on that day.
Tests: Tests will be given in different formats throughout this course, usually at the end of each chapter covered and are comprehensive. It is your responsibility to be here on test day. If an absence is unexcused then a test cannot be made up. Students are notified of test dates at least one week in advance.
WebQuests: The WebQuest projects are internet-based projects provided from Glencoe, the text book manufacturer. Projects are started several months in advance and students are given at least a 30-day notice of when each project is due. The projects include a “WebQuest Packet” that students are given at the beginning of the project. Questions are answered throughout the unit project and turned in for a homework grade. The final project is graded by a specific rubric and counts in the “WebQuest” portion of each quarter grade.
Grading: Each quarter grade will be comprised of 50% test scores, 20% quiz scores, 20% of your homework/organization scores, and 10% of your WebQuest scores. The semester grade is comprised of 40% of the first quarter grade, 40% of the second quarter grade, and 20% of the final exam grade.
Other Items: I will generally be in the classroom from 7am-2:45pm for anyone wanting any extra help. Keep in mind that we will begin each class with prayer and you are expected to be seated and quiet when the final bell rings. You will use your agenda to keep track of all assignments, test dates, etc. as well as your hall pass. Therefore, it is mandatory that you have it with you in this class.

Policies – Most policies follow direct from the Student/Parent Handbook. However, some classroom policies apply in addition to those discussed in the Student/Parent Handbook.
Sleeping/Tardy – Any student identified as sleeping in class and/or tardy to class will undergo the following:
The first offense warrants a verbal warning to the student.
The second offense will require a phone call home to discuss the
matter with the parents.
A third offense will result in a 2-demerit (double) detention issued. It will be classified as “DISRESPECT” with an explanation in the space provided.
Classroom Management – All maintenance is the responsibility of the class.
· Do not talk during lecture or explanation (of a problem, etc.). It is disrespectful!
· Do ask questions regularly but please raise your hand to be called on before proceeding.
· Do not touch the blinds, windows, closet doors, clock, or anything behind the teacher’s desk as I am responsible for all of it; not you.
· Do answer questions, but only when asked to the entire class or specifically to you!
